Previous private owner: no BPM?

Bericht door tore »

Again sorry for the lack of Dutch.

After learning about the BPM rules around camper conversation I was a bit put off. But turns out the van I am looking at now has only been in private ownership (but sold through dealership), and by the looks of it was used as a camper. (Got a CEE outlet and side window)

Am I correct to understand that I do not have to pay BPM? I'm Strongly assuming the previous owner had to pay the BPM.

Thanks in advance

You can check the title of the car, or check the website from RDW, there you can see if the BPM is paid or not.

BPM only has to be paid once. Normally when a vehicle is new and the byer/owner is private. But if someone who lives in The Netherlands buys a vehicle for example from Belgium, Germany or UK and want to drive on Dutch plates the new owner has to pay BPM. Depending on worth and ages the amount will be higher/lower.

Thanks :)

https://ovi.rdw.nl/default.aspx Does confirm it has had only one private owner, and carfax also show 1 private owner and not a import car. Was registered when new in NL.

rdw doesn't really show if BPM has been paid or not, only the bruto BPM.

So looks like no BPM to pay on this. Can I call belastingdients to be sure? Perhaps also the dealership can verify this for me.

If no BPM, i think it a good deal. 32K km, and still 6 month warranty left on it.

To be sure, I would call the "belastingdienst".

I looked up my own (homemade) campervan, 8KNH47.
It reads under the figure J: Personenwagen (that means a normal car for which BPM has been paid)
with special purpose: Kampeerwagen (that means motorhome).

When you see Personenwagen in combination with Kampeerwagen it means it's a campervan or motorhome
and BPM has been paid.

But I would call Belastingdienst if I where you! Just to be sure...

Yeah it was too good to be true :(

The dealer confirmed it doesn't have BPM paid, looks like a freelance put had it as "work" car. Sneaky, you can clearly see it was used as camper.

Maybe i should start a 1 man IT company haha.

I guess ill be looking at around 2012 with acceptable mileage. Cant escape the BPM i guess.

Any tips on what i should look for when inspecting older vans?

Just what Aloys wrote.
If you're looking for a campervan, write down the registration plate, check it on www.rdw.nl
If It reads under the figure J: Personenwagen (that means a normal car for which BPM has been paid)
with special purpose: Kampeerwagen (that means motorhome), you don't have to pay BPM, as it has already been paid.
This goes for campervans/motorhomes with a Dutch registration plate. Not with imported cars.

The price of the van in the advertisement is without VAT or BTW, that means the first owner was a company. If jou do not have a company you need to add 19,5 % to the price mentioned in the advertisement.

Hmm, 20% I would be ok with, but that's just the BTW I would imagine? The BPM would be 6-7K I'd think?
I Estimated close to 10k more than asking price, so More than 25K total. Or am I way off now?

Under 20k total I'd go for it.
